This book annoyed the hell out of me and I'm so disappointed in it, having really enjoyed a few of her other novels.

I was in the mood for a psychological thriller, and instead I spent what I did read of this being bored and eye-rolling so much that I fear I'll never see anything but the back of my head again. None of the characters were even remotely likable (you have to root for someone!) and it was so repetative, clichéd and superficial as to feel as if it were stuck in a time warp. Most problematic of all however, was that it was so desperate to be 'shocking' and salacious that it came off as being problematic in terms of race and sexuality, as well as verging on being culturally inappropriate. Honestly, it's 2020, lesbians aren't a plot twist (a character even quotes the Katie Perry song in response to kissing another woman, and I swore out loud at how unbearably naff it was) and a character being black doesn't need to be mentioned every five minutes as if it's a novelty.

Nope.
