This was straight up an adventure story without much in the way of satire and humor of the previous two novellas.  It was much more dramatic with a good bit of tragedy.  It was still rather good, though, and it carried the story of the characters on very well.  It stayed true to the characterizations that were built up before and, although the tone wasn't lighthearted, it read with the similar ease as the others.  I'm not sure that this is what I'd have wanted to read from the beginning, but the first two novellas did a good job of making me care enough about the characters to really get into it.
