War and the World: Military Power and the Fate of Continents, 1450-2000 by Jeremy Black

3.0

Black drowns the reader in the minutiae of campaign names & battle dates. In between, the occassional gem of analysis blinks: a main difference beween the Jacobate Rising of 1745 and the American Revolution was the control over maritime reinforcement routes.

Why can't he flesh out the entire catalogue like that?
