This is an extraordinary and deeply moving read. The story begins in Ireland during the 1940s and spans to the present day, tracing the life of Cyril, a boy born out of wedlock. His mother, ostracized by the church and her home, decides to give him up to another family, who raise him in an unconventional manner.

Throughout his upbringing, Cyril grapples with his sexuality in a society where homosexuality is stigmatized and simply unacceptable.
The book is both heartbreaking and profoundly dark, yet it is absolutely compelling and unforgettable.
