Reread.
Enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first time. Something about the fate of Afghanistan and Afghan women in particular makes me ache in solidarity and outrage about the unfairness of it every time I watch or read something similar. The novel might be a bit naïve and sentimental at times, but it doesn't shy away from the terror of war and extremist groups. At the same time, it is full of love, pain, and hope for the author's country and people. Motherhood also comes through as the main theme of the novel, exploring it in many different contexts and personal stories.
