I am really rather fond of botanical horror tales, and this one is no different. Throw in a Frankenstein vibe, and I am sold.
Gregor, a failed botanist, and his boyfriend, Simon, a taxidermist, are living their quiet lives when Gregor secures a fungus that is merging with other plants. He has the idea to let the fungi fuse with a cadaver of a recently deseased girl.
There is a bit of drawn out plot and I felt one dimensional characters, while that would normally make this a hard book to read it still had a lot of horrific twists and turns. I look forward to seeing more from this author. His writing was very poetic, and this idea felt oddly fresh.
