The Next Best Fling
by Gabriella Gamez
This was a cute read. It was very easy to get through and enjoyable. The way Marcela and Theo helped each other in different ways, was so heartwarming. Even when things went so wrong, they stuck through it.
I really enjoyed Marcela as a woman. She had insecurities, but she also didn't focus on them so much that you got affected by it. It was just enough that it made sense in the situations she was in, and that was just what it needed. I liked how through her journey with Theo, she realized things about herself and those around her that altered how she knew she wanted to live her life. She discovered who she needed in her life and who she needed to cut out. In the process, she also helped others figure that out, which was amazing.
Theo was really struggling through this book. It was actually kind of nice to see a MMC going through the worst rather than the FMC. The FMC definitely had difficult things to get through, but I felt--personally--the MMC's was worse. He tried to do what he could to repair things, but in the end, he--like Marcela--figured out who he did and did not want in his life. Marcela allowed him to be himself and figure things out alongside her, and she never thought any different of him.
These characters were so beautiful together. I found myself smiling at points. I really enjoyed going on this journey with them. There were people I liked, people I appreciated, and even people I hated. The writing was easy to get through, and made the relationships feel like they were mine. I responded like the characters did and felt myself getting irritated along with them. The world was believable, but I really liked how it focused on the relationships between everyone, as well as the leads.
I will certainly pick something up from this author again.
