The story was unique, and the plot kept me reading. The prose was a bit bland, and I noticed some mistakes ("Arnold" where they meant "Arthur," for example). The twist at the end was a surprise, but that's also because there wasn't much foreshadowing. Characters make leaps in logic that the reader can't follow because they're mentioning conversations that took place off-page, which made the whole thing confusing until the big reveal.

This book contains several mentions of sexual assault, though it doesn't go into much detail and happened in the past. There's also a lot of mentions of torture and murder (obviously, since it's about a villain character) and there's also some domestic abuse

during the twist at the end when Evie finds out her father tried to sell her to the man who tried to assault her
