At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft
5.0
Way back in 2012 I grabbed his book on the way to Uni from Waterstones. All by accident and chance, I didn't look at the author I just wanted something to read while I traveled.
The story was so titillating, that it popped my metaphorical cosmic horror cherry and got me into Lovecraft.
The way the story flows, and how it describes the little things that build up and up until everything just bursts into this ungodly crescendo. I love it.
Though it isn't as "short" as his other stories (like Dagon for example) and can seem that it's dragging (not always a bad thing), I always recommend this story.
