An Unlikely romance in a very hard time of America's history. The author gives light to the struggles of a quaker who's beliefs against war and the need to help people. The story also explores the characters relationships between whites and African-Americans. The struggle that Dev had with his family's varying views on slavery and his beliefs.

Ms. Cote does an excellent job writing characters that the readers care about and the issues that each of them deal with in light of the Civil War and the time period of America's history. The romance within the story was typical for Christian fiction and felt comfortable with the uniqueness of the plot and perspectives of the characters. The book was a quick and enjoyable read. It was refreshing from the typical Quaker/Amish story. Give this to a reader that like historical fiction or Amish/Quaker stories for a unique and fresh look.
