A fantastic, wondrous, devastating five-star read. The premise of two young men hesitantly yet deeply in love going to the front drew me in from the start. The writing was beautiful, the character work phenomenal and the brutality (and for what?) of the trenches shown in the most raw ways. Gaunt and Ellwood are going to live rent-free in my head for a long time.
