I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book. Not everyone needs to learn about trauma. However, if you are interested in an academic approach to trauma, this book has a lot of good, science-backed information. I would say it is not an entry-level read though and it definitely does not hold back with traumatic anecdotes.

The book begins with a history of the author's work in the emerging field of trauma and ends with several treatments that can help. The author is not a huge fan of medications to treat trauma, and cites multiple studies that support his views. For people whose lives have been positively changed due to their medication, this might feel like an attack on them. It is what it is - we do still have much to learn about why medications work and why they work better for some rather than others.

This book does focus more on big T trauma. Many of the studies are from populations that experienced war and sexual assault. Smaller but chronically experienced trauma isn't really discussed.

I thought it was well written. Listened to it and the narrator was a solid narrator. Did need to slow it down to 1.7x rather than 2.0x due to the dense Ness of the content.
