The Last Smile in Sunder City by Luke Arnold

5.0

I really loved this read! I will eat up a mixed genre novel every day of the week and this one combined some of my favourites - mystery? Check! Fantasy? Check! Seamless merging of the fantastic and reality? Check and check!

I loved all the characters in this. Each one had me looking forward to when they would appear again, even the complete twits of this world. Fetch Phillips had the classic crime novel 'tortured MC' thing going on which sometimes I find a little frustrating but here it was balanced wonderfully by the characters sense of humour and narrative voice.

The story itself was such a great read! Interesting premise with a really well thought out plot so all the twists hit just right! The pockets of flashback and history fit it really well too, and helped contribute to the story nicely!

Overall, such a fun read! I will definitely be picking up the sequel!
