Help Thanks Wow: The Three Essential Prayers by Anne Lamott

5.0

You may in fact be wondering what I even mean when I use the word "prayer." It's certainly not what TV Christians mean. It's not for display purposes, like plastic sushi or neon. Prayer is private, even when we pray with others. It is communication from one's heart to God. Or if that is too triggering or ludicrous a concept for you, to the Good, the force that is beyond our comprehension but that in our pain or supplication or relief we don't need to define or have proof of or any established contact with.

Sometimes a book falls into your lap just when you need it most. This book found me through the Kindle daily deals a couple of days after my husband had a major medical emergency and I found myself floundering and not knowing where to turn or what to do. And then I began reading this little gem. And I found myself able to breathe a little bit more. I don't consider myself to be religious or even very spiritual but such a life-altering event can often change your perspective and your need. Now I find myself saying Help - Thanks - Wow (a lot!) when I never would have before. And I find myself seeking out literature to help guide me in a newly forming spiritual life. To that I say Thank You to whatever Good brought me to Anne Lamott and her wry and witty little book about prayer.
