It is totally my fault for not knowing what this book was about when I got it, I was distracted by the beautiful cover of the characters that I did not know that it was a retelling of the “The Princess Bride.” I think that is why I did not enjoy the book because when I saw the princess bride for the first time… I did not like it as much as I was hoping for. So I think I took that mindset of not liking that story and put that feeling into this book. So when I found out that this book was based off of that, I already made up my mind that I will not like this book.
So I am going to start off the negatives then move to the positives.

What I did not like:
The main character, Amarande, pissed me off the ENTIRE book. Since page one she kept saying “I have been trained for this” or “ My Father trained me for this moment” in the first half of the book, just for her to say “No amount of training could have prepared me for this” for the sound half. I am trying to think of a time when she actually did something with her training because that knowledge of her having “training” was very forced for the reader to know. This made every other character more interesting than her. The second issue I had was how the author decided to resolve the problem with Luca and Amarande being of different social class. I felt it was the easiest way to resolve the issue and it made it seem that there was no thought put into it.

What I liked:
Luca
And the ending..

Overall, if you like the Princess Bride then I say read the book, but if it is not your favorite then maybe save this book for another time.. I probably will read the second book just because Luca looks sooooo good on the cover.
