How to Protect Bookstores and Why: The Present and Future of Bookselling by Danny Caine

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
Okay, the truth is I agree with a lot of Caine’s understanding of what makes bookstores valuable, especially that independent bookstores have identities and create safe, open spaces for conversation and community. However, the idea that bookstores are valuable just because they are radical and fight to dismantle institutions is off-putting to me. I think that a space for bookstores to be apolitical or even to support an opposing view to that of the author (and to my own).

The truth is, I think I would have enjoyed the profiles of different bookstores and bookstore owners, but I just couldn’t get past the author’s voice and judgment.
