Persuasion by Jane Austen

4.0

"Anne hoped she had outlived the age of blushing; but the age of emotion she certainly had not."

While I do still appreciate and love this story in many respects, I also find myself enjoying it less now than I once did. The first half of the story is all setting up the last half, but does not give great insight into any characters. All of the real development comes in the last half, where it seems like we get to know and understand everyone.

This does shine in its humor, however, as Austen is a master of witty writing. I laughed out loud several times while reading.

2019 Review
"Now they were as strangers; nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become acquainted."

The last of Jane Austen's six novels to reach my goal of rereading her novels this year! And it was excellent.

Austen's writing is phenomenal and I honestly hope to one day have a style as beautiful as hers. Each time I read one of her books I fall in love with the writing.

And of course the characters and story are wonderful. This is a second chance romance story, where two people were separated years before and are thrown together again. It's not always a happy situation, because old emotions tend to resurface, but it's beautiful to watch their relationship unfold.

As with any Austen novel, there is a cast of fascinating characters. Many of them are very frustrating, but each one adds something to the story. Beautifully written, absolutely lovely story. I'm already ready to begin reading all of the books again.
