Adele by Leïla Slimani

Three days of boredom reading this.

A woman who is dissatisfied by the ultra-banality of her life, and sometimes is not right in the head, is quite a common theme for books like this. I've read a few of the same theme, and while the characters are purposefully unlikable, I still have the ability to understand their actions. But I couldn't do the same for Adèle.

It feels like every character in this book does everything sans raison. She just does this, and he just does that, but why does that happen, one could never know. Everything was so vague and so minimally explained I often had no idea of what's happening. And to add to that, the story and pacing themselves were just too jumpy, and it made me lost in a sea of confusions.

I bought this because it is a Prix Goncourt winner.....
