The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

4.0

This was good. I am intrigued, interested in seeing where this is going. I liked the characters, they felt sufficiently complex, particulalry Lin and Phalue. Jovis was fun (for the most part), he was just such a straight, run-of-the-mill Robin Hood-esque character. His only flaw really is he's obsessive, but he's obsessive about his lost wife!!! So it's allowed (and therefore slightly boring 😅😅😅). I would like more of Bayan please.

This is an interesting world! Love the island setting, how each one is unique, I hope to learn more about the system in the next books. The mystery of what is going on has my attention. Well I mean obviously it's one thing but how is that going to come about is the question. The pacing was a bit off, it felt slow but also like we didn't quite get enough substance for the plot.

I overall liked the writing I'm just not quite a fan of the change in POV from first person to third person for some POVs. I thought that maybe it was bc of timey wimey shenanigans maybe, but it seems I was overthinking bc by the end it seems like third person is just.... the side character POVs vs the main characters of Lin and Jovis? I kind of wish the author would have stuck with third person throughout. I get why she didn't want to go with first person, particularly given all the side characters, but the change in perspective did pull me out of the story.

Anyway intrigued enough to continue, lets see what happens next.
