Apple: Skin to the Core by Eric Gansworth

3.0

I’ve tried to write this review many times. Instead of writing a long, detailed review, I’m going to keep this super simple. Maybe I’ll post the long version another time.

Ultimately, I struggled with this book. It’s not what I expected. But in the end, I appreciate this piece of art and glad it’s out in the world. I have no idea why it’s marketed as YA. That was a huge mistake. Much can be learned from this collection of memoir-ish poetry about life as an American Indian. I was especially interested in learning more about horrors of the Indian residential schools the author’s grandparents were forced to attend.
