I was really interested in reading this book, and I’ll say it was decent! Definitely not a 5 star read, but entertaining and a quick read which I enjoyed. The characters were fine, I honestly felt like none of them had any main development. All of the brothers felt the same honestly and I couldn’t even tell you main characterization that made them different from each other, besides their ages. The main character Avery, wasn’t necessarily lovable or kind, she was honestly felt as if she was a self insert in a way? Like literally I can’t even imagine a face for this poor girl, no distinct style or anything. It’s no big issue, especially when you realize it’s a series I’m expecting more personality to come. Tobias Hawthorne, he is interesting and not really a spoiler but he’s dead. I feel more connected to him than any other character. If a reader is connecting to your dead character more than anyone, you should probably add more substance to your character. The story is the most interesting part of this if you’re looking for a good story read this, but don’t expect much out of the characters.  However, the main issue I had with the book was the pacing and the chapters. I’m not sure if it was to build suspense or what, but it felt awkward. To me, chapters represent new scenes/ dramatic twist/ what have you, but the chapter would end (mind you after being only 2 pages long) just to go back into wherever it left off! With having chapter endings that weren’t really endings, made it hard to find a natural pausing moment to goto bed. I understand maybe doing it once or twice for suspense or something, but it felt as if every chapter was like this, it honestly was so distracting. The story was interesting, and I enjoyed it but the answer to the whole thing felt kinda short and I’m not very satisfied, I understand it is a series so hopefully the next books fulfill me in the way that I am hoping. Other than that it was a decent read and I am looking forward to more.

TLDR; Decent book, chapters are awkward, nothing to write home about characters, will continue series.
