3.5 stars. Good, but it does not live up to the masterpiece that is The Historian (bummer, I was hoping for more). I felt like the plot meandered throughout most of the book, lots of driving from place to place on a seemingly arbitrary mission. I liked the contrast between present day and flashback, much of the later proving to be quite weighty and hard to read, which I think made the modern day characters seem petty by comparison. But I enjoyed it nonetheless, both the story and the glimpse into the history of a country I previously knew nothing about.
