Give Me a Reason by A.L. Jackson
5.0
“‘Give Me a Reason’ is a sexy, stand-alone contemporary romance that’ll make you feel all the feels.”
Yes. It did. For the first time in over two years, I’ve cried while reading a book. I laughed. I swooned, raged, and FELT.
I can agree that sometimes nowadays, spicy romance books don’t dive into the deeper feelings besides lust and love that the two main characters have. But THIS BOOK dives so far, and it’s made me come to appreciate slow (ish) burns as a trope.
This is a 10/10 book.
Read it.
Edit: another thing I really enjoyed, which apparently a lot of people didn’t enjoy about the book, was the writing style.
Yeah, the sentences are incomplete, but they sound like REAL people talking (most of the time) and not like you’re reading two robots. And it’s got a poetic flow, which as a writer myself, I love to use in my own works. It’s creative, original, and enjoyable, if you’re able to hear the character’s voices. It looks aesthetically pleasing like a free form poem does and it makes those feels/emotions really stand out.
And just because it’s not formatted in the “normal”, (and quite frankly, the repetitive boring way,) doesn’t mean it isn’t a good writing style. It shouldn’t be ridiculed for doing something different that WORKS.
