The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

emotional funny hopeful
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
Edit: while I adored this book when I first read it, I have since learned that the inspiration for it was the real event, the 60s scoop. Knowing that and even thinking about other systems more, it sours the wholesome story. Especially since the author seems to not be sorry or acknowledge how weird it is to make a (somehow completely oblivious) colonizer x colonized love story from it. While there is some criticism of the system, it doesn't go far enough.
