This story made me deeply care for the safety of the protagonist, a character who was a very refreshing portrayal of a disabled adult (likely autistic + intellectually disabled), especially from the 1960s, an era where such disabilities were far less understood, even less so for disabled adult.
Mary’s thoughts were always an interesting read, with how certain seemingly meaningless actions can mean so much to her, and how certain major actions can mean so little.
