Finally finished! Rising Strong is the first book I've read under the guidance of my therapist. Reading Brown's work slowly, closely, while learning to understand how I feel has felt empowering. Brown writes a great deal about the power of shame. I now have ideas about how I can reframe my understanding of expectations when I am feeling frustration, anger, or shame, which manifest in what Brown calls the Shitty First Draft. She also talks a fair amount about the worth of individuals.
Thinking about the way I live and what I am learning, in the context of Brown's research, has been enlightening and, probably for me, life changing.
