The Burning God by R.F. Kuang

5.0

What a final book. What a conclusion.

I deducted stars from the previous books in the series because they were nowhere near as good as this. In the other books, I felt a bit confused by what felt like a cacophony of characters and events. Similarly, I often felt uncertain of what was important and unimportant within the overall plot…

Not here. Everything that’s left to tackle in this book is tackled with purpose, and felt meaningful towards the overall development of Rin and the conclusion of Rin and Nikan’s story. We finally get the powerful and conclusive resolution to the trifecta & Rin, Kitay and Nazha’s friendship. The battles were MAGICAL and emotional and exhilarating.

I genuinely hated Rin so much by the end of it, but it was so cleverly done; it reminded me of studying famous historical leaders’ descents into power-hungry madness.

And wow. That final section was so damn perfectly soul-crushing. Devastating. Shook. Cried in my classroom listening to the last 10 minutes of the audiobook.
