I tried to read this for the past 3-4 months and my loan kept running out on me because I could not get through it within the time frame, which is usually never a problem for me. I have to say that I have nothing exactly negative to say about this book other than there was nothing that pushed me enough to finish it. Granted, I think this book had the bad luck to always fall into my hands whenever I felt the slumpiest. I was just never in the mood whenever I picked it up and I don’t want to force myself more than I have.
I think I was just looking for something more adventurous and out of this world rather than something more contemporary.
The book had a lot more world building than I expected for a standalone, especially with the 40% that I read. As you may be well aware, it does feature a transgender and mlm romance (which I enjoyed for the time that we had).
My favorite part of reading Latinx is always hearing words that we also use in Filipino so that’s partly what intrigued me about the synopsis of the book. There was that bit about gender and language that I really liked that I find doesn’t get discussed much in books.
At the end of day, I tried really hard and I think the timing for me and this book was just not it. I really think it’s a personal preference because I feel like I would have loved this if I consumed it in some other way, at some other time.

[2] you can give me back my book now... just sayin... i finally have time...
[1] I didn't read this fast enough so libby returned my book :)) and so I will continue reading this when I get my loan back

“Navigating pronouns was a minefield when pronouns were based on gender.”
