DNF @ 50%. This book was a mess. Again but Better was at least semi readable to the end. This book was not. Unexplained magic, terrible characters, creepy love interests, and so so so many doses of describing only nonwhite skin. Please it’s 2021!!!
Also as a bisexual the bi rep is so sad. All of the “diversity” in this feels so fake and shoehorned in like it was all an afterthought. Idk maybe it’s just me.
The characters are so unlikeable. The fact that they’re named after incest twins is bad enough, but Siri’s language is so clunky and absurd. “Gluteus Maximus trench”???? Even if you don’t curse, there are plenty of sensical PG ways to say things like that. Watch one teen movie and you’ll find better ways. Jamie is also just. Not funny. For a comedian, a career where it’s literally your job to be personable, she has no interpersonal skills. She’s annoying and intrusive, two terrible personality traits. There’s honestly so much I could say but other reviews have already said them.
I think there’s semi good bones, but it feels like this book was written in one night and the editor said great! Off to press! It could’ve been better if plot revisions were way heavier because this plot literally makes no sense. Whatever her next book is, I hope it’s better lmaoo
