⛓️ dark romance.
— fast-paced, dual timeline, dual pov

“i’ll chase away all your nightmares, until they grow wary of returning. they will fear me, my little ghost. but you never will.“

another five-star read from hd carlton! the story revolves around the disappearance of molly devereaux, a little girl from a small town in oregon. molly’s disappearance throws the neighborhood into upheaval, prompting her loved ones and local authorities to embark on a desperate search for answers.

first of all, every hd carlton book is a read-it-right-away type of book. after reading the cat & mouse duet, i was really intrigued about who molly was and what exactly happened to her. i really liked reading this book and it answered all my questions about molly and i was also able to know her life story. the plot was incredible and i loved that it was written in dual timeline, and the element of mystery was out of this world. it was one of my quick and easy reads, and there are no dull moments. for me, it was not as dark as the cat & mouse duet, but it is indeed a very sad and painful story. there are lots of parts that made me cry so hard, especially the fmc’s situation. plus, i adored the fmc’s strong personality so much, and her love for her little sister.

just like the cat & mouse duet, this story was also an eye-opener about how cruel the world is. i really wish this book was longer because i am longing to witness the fmc’s genuine happiness after all that she's been through. this is a kind of dark romance, mystery book that you’ll be able to read in just one sitting and will definitely give you different kind of emotions. lastly, do not forget to read the extended epilogue.
