The fifth instalment of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper series follows Nick and Charlie, now an out and established couple, as they navigate making decisions about their education on top of exploring their sexualities and dealing with mental health issues, with the help of their friends. My favourite character was Nick, although Elle and her brutal honesty are a close second. I recommend this book because I love this series, it’s so cute and such important representation. I think it’s interesting to see Nick and Charlie navigating more adult problems. “When I realised I was bi… I feel like I woke up. Because I was repressing so much of myself before then. Not just my sexuality, but, like, my thoughts and feelings and personality. But I think I still hide behind that mask a lot of the time, just laughing and joking with my mates, but never really opening up to anyone. Now that I’ve been thinking about uni and my future, I’ve realised there’s so much about myself I need to figure out.”
