As with the other two books, I devoured this last installment in The Liveship Traders trilogy. It was satisfying to read as the climax built to all of our characters eventual meeting. As with the other two books, the Realm of the Elderlings lore continued to build and get more intricate.

While I understand why Hobb made some choices in this book to examine deeper themes like cycles of trauma, pain and healing/not healing, etc. I wish those examinations hadn’t come at the expense of one of our main characters, who I really feel deserved better in their story. I feel like a lot of the growth was discarded for a shock factor, non-redemption arc of another character, and to further plot/lore for future books and that’s a real bummer.

While I think this trilogy wrapped up more concisely as a potential stand alone trilogy than the Farseer trilogy I still think its ending would be a bit disappointing if you weren’t planning on the full Realm of the Elderlings read.
