Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters
4.0

Ok, so while a few things were a little iffy to me, and a lot of the Australian stuff was either Americanised or wrong (flip flops/chilly bin etc) I still really liked the book. The most ‘iffy’ thing to me was actually a main part of the book, he’s so into her because she isn’t broken, and honestly I just kept saying to myself, well duh, they had her for like a week? All his other girls seem to be people who have been sold to a master before, not someone who is fresh? Maybe it was just that he didn’t know she was newly stolen? I dunno. She also needed major therapy for her attachment issues. Oof. Her & Brax were awful to read in the beginning. Also, she was so ashamed of her desires & it annoyed the hell out of me. In those moments she claims at one point she only wanted light bondage. She said she wanted him to be a little less gentle and tie her up with her panties. She pulls out a vibrator and Brax said THAT was the moment he knew they weren’t compatible. Not say, the bondage she’d referenced 3 times, or that he hated PDA and she kept forcing herself on him (that annoyed me, she was awful with his boundaries all because of her own insecurities)

There is non-con and dub-con in this book. Q saying he ‘didn’t rape her’ in the first pool table scene made me very uncomfortable. He may not have put his dick in her, but he definitely sexually assaulted her & honestly it came across like he thought only the things his father did to girls was awful, because they didn’t want it. What he did was wrong & to not think it was but that the whipping etc is, was genuinely gross to read. Not so much the acts, but his mindset on it. He thinks because those girls didn’t enjoy it, that’s what makes it rape, but because Tess did (even if she struggled, fought and cried for him to stop) that’s not wrong to him.

Aside from my discomfort, I really enjoyed reading it. I couldn’t put it down & stayed up all night both nights I read this. I’m interested to see where else this goes even though I’m still traumatised by some of the things that happened to Tess. Wondering how it can last so many books but I’m willing to find out. I’ll try get to the next book soon, but hopefully will continue this year.
