Lots of useful information in here. This book goes against the “human must be the pack leader” philosophy, which I found disconcerting at first. But Zak does back his claims with (some) systematic evidence. And in the end the practical advice doesn’t change so much between the two training philosophies: keep the dog contained in the first few weeks; a tired dog is a good dog; etc. Even when it comes to obedience training the advice is practically the same (punishment doesn’t work; reward liberally). In the end reading this book right after Cesar Millan’s *How to Raise the Perfect Dog* was surpisingly reassuring.
