A Fire in The Sky by Sophie Jordan
3.5
Overall rating: 3.5
Ya know.... this is a romantasy that I actually didn't hate... SUPRISING IK
It's still mid tho... but I felt like the formula the author chose for the romance plot and dragon side plot was done somewhat ok.... it was like a 70/30 ratio for romance/plot and idk... I thought the author did an ok job... the writing wasn't anything revolutionary but I didn't find it too cringy and I've read worse writing.
also... snitches get stitches...
Oop I should've done this review a lot sooner.... but honestly after sitting on it... it's still mid.
I'm not sure what the author thought they were doing when she introduced Tamsyn as the "royal whipping girl" then sold her off to a "brute" warlord in a distant landwho is then revealed to be planning a coup.... .... it was such a basic thing and nothing was really added... it just infuriated me with the fact that Tamsyn never stuck up for herself.... she constantly felt like an outsider despite being "apart" of the royal family and was constantly shit on and yet we, as the readers are supposed to like her?
Nah fam. Not around here partner.... I didn't like her until she got away from her abusive family.... but even then... she didn't really stick up for herself in front of the shitty husband either so I'm very neutral about her character...
Then we have Fell. He's one of those men who is a shitty husband but "great" leader (barely imo) because of daddy issues and he was just another basic bitch romantasy lead... nothing new to add to the genre....
Now ik this review makes it seem like I hate the book but I swear I liked reading it. I thought the author kept me engaged enough in the story to keep going and Tamsyn finding out about her heritage and finding herself outside of the kingdom was probably my favorite things of the storynot to mention her inner struggle after finding out she's a dragon was just the icing on the cake because it really goes to show just how ignorant she is of the world and how brainwashed she became.
The plot reveal was pretty much something I guessed from the wedding night so it wasn't anything revolutionary.... the books I've been reading.. boy do authors need to know how to write a proper plot twist...
Then there was the snitch... I hope that in the next book they get beat up... but I do hope they see the error in their ways... if not... THEN TO THE GUILLOTINE!
