The Law of Moses
by Amy Harmon
Everything Amy Harmon writes is simply beautiful. I love how she always makes the perfect blend of despair and hope, so much so I always feel a little heavy inside, not knowing whether to dreamy sigh or cry with abandon. Her characters are usually complex and multi-layered. You may not love all of them or even agree with what the ones you do love say or do, but you end up loving their journey. This time around was no different.
I loved how unhinged Moses was. Cracked, like Georgia and himself used to say. I can see how his gift would be more of a curse to him, since he didn't understand it or want it really. I can also understand why he would feel the need to push everyone away and set himself apart from all others. After all, people in general already did that and he was hurt by some of the very people who should love and protect him. So, yes, as much as I wished he hadn't been so wild and blind set on not needing anyone, I can see why it would be hard to accept Georgia's love. He didn't really believe anyone could love him and opening himself up to loving and be loved was scary. I'm just glad he came around and accepted he loved. That he was loved. I thank Georgiana for that, even amidst all the heartbreak. She was so unbelievably strong and fierce. I don't know if I would have taken all those burdens with such resiliency. After all, loving someone without getting something real and meaningful for so long wears you down. I don't think anyone else could have loved Moses, though. It takes a special kind of woman to tame such a wild creature as Moses. All in all, a beautiful journey I'm glad I took part in.
