I greatly enjoy how Steinbeck can take the same basic elements--the American dream, Manifest Destiny, people and their relationship to the land, sex--and make something totally new and unique every time. I genuinely didn't know what to expect every time I turned the page, which is what made me keep turning pages! It's a weird book full of weird characters who are some brand of  spiritual/religious/magical. A quick, interesting read.
