Never Far Away by Michael Koryta
3.0

Have only read one other Kortya novel Those Who Wish Me Dead which is excellent, but feel that this book is just a rearranged plot of the same novel.

From Goodreads Description of Those Who Wish Me Dead:
When fourteen-year-old Jace witnesses a brutal murder, he's plunged into a new life, issued a false identity and hidden in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are slaughtering anyone who gets in their way in a methodical quest to reach him. Now all that remains between them and the boy are [2 people], who run the wilderness survival program, and endless miles of desolate mountains.

In this new novel, there is a brutal murder, a new life, false identity, hiding in the wilderness, and troubled teens. Slaughtering? Yes. Desolate mountains? Yes, but moved from Montana to Maine.

Lots of suspense, but this felt very violent with plenty of blood, so be warned. There are elements that stretch believability including that most sacred tenet of a mother never abandoning her child. Enjoyed the suspense and learning about float planes. Kids are smart, too. Basically good novel, but perhaps not his best.
