Overkill by Sandra Brown

2.0

I usually love romantic suspense/thriller novels, but this one kinda missed the mark for me. I don't know how such an interesting plot turned out so.... meh.

I had a pretty easy time looking past the one-dimensional characters and cheesy dialogue, but the sex scenes killed me. I genuinely don't know how they made it past editors, early readers, publishers, etc because WOW.

Examples, with the worst of the worst in bold so we can suffer together:

Spoiler".. and lowered himself until the pressure and weight and substance of him settled into her cleft. But now wasn't the time for settling. They began feverishly rubbing against each other. He thrust. And again. The imperative prods seeking entrance. When he found her, she was open and giving and glazed with want. Intent and possessive, he penetrated, grafting himself to her completely."

"...and it milked from him a wrenching climax."

"Her sex created a snug cove for his as she stretched out along his torso and rested her cheek on his pec."

So it didn't live up to my expectations after reading the description, but it was readable and entertaining. I tried not to think about the plot too hard because I felt like there was a lot of issues and holes.

I'd probably read another Sandra Brown book - especially if it doesn't have the romance aspect to it or I know it's all fade to black.
