How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
4.0

What an odyssey I went on with this book. I read the first 120 or so pages of this late last year, did not enjoy it, and put it down for a few months until I decided I wanted to give it another shot. The first third of the book is slow. There's about 95% family grief drama, and 5% mildly creepy horror. The characters are all pretty awful and one dimensional, especially the brother Mark, who I felt we spent way too much time with as he was infuriatingly one note. I think what actually happened is 1. I wasn't in the right headspace to read it and 2. It was just about to really take off. And now I love Mark? He was maybe my favorite character. This book ended up being so fun and engrossing and it toed such an interesting line between really campy and some incredibly bleak stuff.
