I read this book right before I went to Paris, and it was the perfect companion for my trip. Mostly because most of Clarke's observations about French culture are true! His descriptions of French customer service (or lack thereof) paralleled my own experiences, and any time I had a waiter who ignored me or a cook who purposely served me a hamburger when I really ordered a Croque Madame, I would remember this book and laugh to myself.
