Maggie Moves On
by Lucy Score
Maggie Moves On is such a highly anticipated read after the viral success of Things We Never Got Over. This was my first Lucy book and obviously had high hopes because everyone and their mother seems to love her. MMO follows Maggie, a popular Youtuber that flips houses and is always on the move, as she ventures in her most challenging project yet: a dilapidated mansion in Kinship, Idaho. Along the way she meets Silas, a charming and flirtatious landscaper who has his eyes set on her.
Tropes:
- employer/employee
- small town
- love at first sight (guy falls first)
- grumpy/sunshine where the girl is more of the grump
I literally loved so many aspects of this book. I loved the way that mental health was portrayed in this romcom. Silas has two moms that prioritize self care, and he shows Maggie how to take care of herself during stressful times in her job, which is just so refreshing to see. Additionally, I LOVE the found family aspect of the book, and I love love love Cody so much. If you’re a fan of a found family this is definitely the romcom for you.
Lucy’s writing is so enjoyable to read, and this definitely was the right amount of witty, entertaining, and humorous. I personally love when the guy falls first, and that trope plays a huge role in this story. Maggie is a girlboss who has also been independent, but Silas shows her that that’s not all there is to life.
To be honest, I never really realized this before but this book made me come to the conclusion that I’m kinda a small-town romance enthusiast. Why are they so good? Overall, I would highly recommend this romcom!
