This book was marketed to me as a fantasy romance, so I went into it thinking that. And the first 60 pages absolutely lives up to the hype. Could not put it down. It was absolutely amazing. I was here for the fantasy romance. However, between page 60 and 200 is one things begin to slow down. A lot of fighting happened a lot more of the political portion of the story came in to play, but the romance almost disappeared. Which was disappointing because I was expecting a lot of romance. However, the end of the book kicked it up a lot of notches. My heart was wrenching. My anger was fired up and I’m hoping book 2 will have more romance!

In short, I almost wish the author added more romance in the middle of the book especially because the beginning had so much of it. I think a few more scenes between the two main characters would have made to romance connect fully from beginning to end and would have developed the main characters growth a little more.

I was also very confused about the placings of the different kingdoms. My edition had no maps, and I found it very hard to keep track of everything.

Despite that, I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and cannot wait to pick up the second book. If you’re someone who loves a good fantasy with a romance plotline, then you will enjoy this one.

I also recommend the audiobook for this one. There are two voice actors and both did a phenomenal job!
