jaslyn_ 's review for:
Blood Meridian
by Cormac McCarthy
the reputation of this book didn't disappoint, but rather i found myself stumped by lots of the language (my lack of vocabulary, perhaps) which caused me to understand less than 30% of it. despite the incoherence lots of the atmospheric descriptions were simultaneously lush and so gorgeous to read and repetitive in its beauty.
the main issue I had with this would be the lack of characterisation which it hard to root for and follow certain characters' journeys. This eventualy became a slog to read, but I enjoyed the first part where it was still understandable. Violence was well, extreme in certain retrospects but it never felt gratituous. I'm gonna have to look up what lessons or meaning there are held in some of the introspective bits because this book felt like it had no plot whatsoever
