The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

3.0

On its own, I don’t think this book is bad. I found the plot to be pretty compelling, and I love the world of Gilead enough that I would probably read anything set there. However, this book did not need to occur. The beauty of The Handmaid’s Tale was in its limited perspective and ambiguous ending. We were left dreaming for the best yet expecting the worst for Offred. By giving us the answers we never received in the original story, The Testaments undermined so much of what The Handmaid’s Tale was trying to say. I enjoyed my time reading it, but I wish this book had never been written.
