The Story of Lee: Volume 1 by Chie Kutsuwada, Sean Michael Wilson

3.0

This was a nice but meaningful little manga about a chinese girl who falls in love with a scottish guy. It was layered with notes of xenophobia, abuse, and death though (but not in an extreme way). The author was definitely trying to show how his characters reacted to many difficult things to deal with in life, but it was done in a very readable way. This was very easy to read. I would consider following along in the series if my library has the rest. I find it interesting that both the leads main criteria for love interests is that they be the opposite race. The girl wanted to only date western guys, and the guy only wanted to date oriental girls. The more I think on this book, the more layers of messages I see in regards to hot button issues. It was more of a thinking man's manga. I'd say give it a shot if you're looking for something a bit more grounded in reality.
