Calypso by David Sedaris

1.0

I read this on Audiobook so it was narrated by the author. It took me a while to get used his voice. I had just listened to The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher narrated by Carrie Fisher and I kept thinking they were the same person and losing track of what I was listening to. I was feeling bad about confusing David Sedaris’s voice with a woman’s when he said in his book that that very thing often happens to him and his brother. That part was funny!
I tried really hard to like this book and was anticipating a rollicking good time with some poignant moments thrown in for spice but I just didn’t find it that funny. It’s probably because I just didn’t relate to Mr. Sedaris that much. I’m sure to another person it would be very funny. I found it downright boring and at times all the way disgusting (I could not handle him wanting to feed his tumor to a turtle!) There were some poignant moments, however around the death of his sister and his mother.
