The World for Sale: Money, Power, and the Traders Who Barter the Earth's Resources by Jack Farchy, Javier Blas

5.0

A fantastic, mind-opening read. Javier Blas' exposition on the commodity traders and the extent of their economic and (shockingly) political influence is unlike any other finance/ economic history book out there. The stories cited sound almost like an alternate reality to what my understanding of the events would have been so far. The creative extent of capitalism exposed by Blas is astounding- from a grain co. printing its own currency and profiteering from that, to commodity traders shaping the future of countries. There are perhaps a dozen of mini-series waiting to be made on the stories presented in this book. A brilliant read!
