Perfect Chemistry
by Simone Elkeles
I remember reading this a few years ago and I sort of liked it, but as I've grown and read more books, now after re-reading this I've realised how stereotypical and cliche this book is.
The storyline is one that is so over used now and it wasn't even used in an original way. Both families were awful. Brittany had some strong moments were you could see her potential to be different but then she went back to being the naive little girl she was a the start. Alex just played a character that's over written. The bad boy player that doesn't really want to be bad and actually he's really smart and wants more out of life. And in the end - of course Brittany gives Alex another chance without a proper apology because she loves him so much and that's all that really matters in the end.
I don't really know what kind of message this book was trying to achieve. That gangs are terrifying. Parents are selfish and awful. Love is all you need in the end?
You can have a bad boy and the 'it' girl get together but you don't have to play up the stereotypes. It's a shame this book over did everything and wasn't as original and creative as it could have been.
