Hollow Heart: The Complete Series
by Adrian F. Wassel, Paul Allor, Paul Tucker
Unsure. I feel like more world building would have really helped, as we don’t get a lot of background about who El once was and what the purpose of the facility is. I wasn’t sure if El was a newly-made consciousness or had been human previously? The book jacket says the latter but the text implies the former— either of those could have built up his character a lot more.
“Wants vs needs” is a main theme for the narrator’s stories and El’s situation but it doesn’t get fleshed out much. Ultimately I didn’t connect with it.
